Purchasing power parity: The West African experience

The fifteen heads of States the Economic Community West African (ECOWAS) are currently considering a unified currency called “Eco”. This decision suggests need to study purchasing power parity (PPP) existing for various countries. Thus, in this paper, we investigate existence relative PPP theory over 50 years period that spanned through 1970 2019 sixteen Countries against U.S. Dollars using panel data analysis approach. two approaches testing hypothesis namely; unit root test and cointegration were employed check or between nominal exchange rate countries price ratio. results Im-Pesaran-Shin show ratio panels have root, which implies variables non-stationary their level difference thus they I(1). On other hand, from Kao Westerlund tests supported long-run relationship convergence shows there exists as well all paper further imply is change reviewed. Therefore, recent among ECOWAS will yield meaningful return long-run.
